The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology published a study in 2005 that evaluated a low fat diet in men. They showed a significant reduction (12%) in men’s testosterone following a low fat, high fiber diet. Adrenal androgens (more “male” hormones) also decreased. A study published in 1989 demonstrated that a low fat diet reduced circulating estrone (estrogen) levels by 36%.
For so many reason’s we need a healthy amount of fat in our diets. Men on low fat / low carb diets often look great for a little while, but then their hormones hit a wall and they can’t figure out why. One simple thing you can do if your levels are low and you can’t get them up is to add healthy natural fats.
