6 Lifesavers For Childhood Illness

There are 6 supplements that I NEVER run out of at home for illness! They’re natural, proven remedies backed by medical science. As always, consult your doctor before trying these. But once you’ve taken the first steps to natural supplements, treatments and prevention, there’s no going back.

  1. Curing Pills:  These have been used in Chinese medicine for treating nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea for many years.  The pellets are very small and can be mixed in applesauce for children.  In general, it takes about 20 minutes to control the symptoms.  It may cause you to empty the contents of your stomach or bowels if you have a virus. The herbs will not prevent that. It needs to happen.  In turn, you may feel off from dehydration and a change in your pH, but you would soon feel better.  It can be taken as much as needed, and may be given at the first hint of illness to prevent the onset in some cases.  If the medicine is not helping, please seek medical attention.  These pills doesn’t significantly improve:  parasites, medication overdoses, or C Diff.  If you are lethargic or have had symptoms for an extended period of time, make sure you have a provider monitoring you.
  2. Old Indian Wild Cherry Bark Syrup:  This syrup tastes terrible but it can be your best friend against coughs.  You have to take the full prescribed dose. It can also be used during asthma attacks.  If after 20 minutes until the next day, you are still experiencing respiratory distress or the condition worsens, you need to seek medical attention.
  3. Yin Chiao:  This little antiviral / antibacterial blend is a lifesaver for basic colds, minor ear problems and viruses.  It can be combined with any of these other medicines as indicated on the package.
  4. Quell Fire:  This formula is great to have around for urinary infection, ear infection, and tonsil infections.  For children, use a few drops and wait 20 minutes before checking the fever.  If your child is sick, please make an appointment with the doctor to discuss the prescription until you know how to use it on your own.  As with any acute infection or antibiotic, if you are worse the next day, the treatment isn’t working and you may need to seek urgent care.
  5. N Acetyl Cysteine:  This amino acid can be taken in high doses (up to 3000 mg per day) for thick mucus.  It can also be used for sinus infections, ear infections, coughs, or anything with tenacious mucus that won’t drain.  I never use it alone, but in combination with the above treatments as needed.
  6. Zhong Gan Ling:  In traditional Chinese Medicine, this has been used for a long time for sore throat, aches, and fever.  It can be combined as needed with the other medicines.  Often, the “flu” also impacts other systems. Exercise caution when dosing other people.

But What About Prevention?

I love elderberry syrup concentrate for people who get sick frequently.  It is easy to use and very safe.  You can take 1 ml daily for prevention.  If you are starting to get sick, take 1 ml every hour the first day.  This is a GREAT treatment for kids, I use it at home often.

The Best True Home Remedy

This treatment is less appealing but works great.  With the onset of the flu, a virus, or sinus infection, try chewing a whole clove of garlic!  This may make you smell terrible but, in a pinch when you don’t have anything else, this works!

Need More Help?

For people who need general care, I genuinely love the annual care option.  If you get sick a lot and don’t want to have to pay co-pays or take meds every time, this will help. This gives you access to me when you need to talk to a doctor and don’t want to mess with the usual hassles with the medical system.  Get my cellphone number just in case you need it.  I will answer your questions, help with your diet program, tell you what to do when you are sick, talk to your other providers as needed, and give you my guidance in more urgent care situations.

Acupuncture and other treatments are also included.  I enjoy this option so much because it gives you the access you want without having to book an appointment for everything you need.  When I know you really well, I can take a quick call from you.

I don’t always need a chart to answer your question or remember what you are taking.  It allows me to give you that personal family doctor care that you (and I) want.  My concierge fees can be submitted to insurance as an out of network provider for partial coverage and ideally can keep from needing a lot of other medical care the rest of the year.
